As a smart phone buyer we demand many smart features on it. It’s very pity to say that, it’s not a smart phone OS. Symbian Belle is even far better than windows phone 8. Following are the some main reasons, which are forced me to write this letter:

    1. Can’t make a video call. (Nokia website mentions video call as one of the Lumia 920’s feature. Can you explain how to make a video call from windows phone 8?)
    2. No file manager or file browser. (When we contacted the customer care, Lumia dept. for this issue, got a reply that, do install “IS Explorer PRO” which costs $1. And after doing the same really wondered, it was an utter worst application which can’t open any directory. It’s raising a question that is Microsoft developers publishing an application in its windows market without any verification? )
    3. Can’t open zip files.
    4. Can’t attach any type of files other than photos in emails. (Only photos can attach, any other type of files cannot attach in email.)
    5. Alarm will not work when the phone is switch off.
    6. Status bar (for battery, signal, wifi, bluetooth) will not show always.
    7. There is no any easy access for mobile data, blue tooth, silent mode, and wifi settings. (all other platforms like symbian, android and iphone can drag from top for easy access)
    8. There is no option to close/exit any application or games, except pressing back.
    9. Can’t install third-party application.
    10. No VPN support.
    11. There is no option to close multiple applications by task manager.
    12. Can’t save draft messages.
    13. Call duration is not showing in call history.
    14. If any sms receives during a call conversation, it rings like same as in standby mode (there is no sound suppression).
    15. Every time after restarting the phone, the ringing volume will automatically set to 20/30(which is a low volume. Even 30/30 has a lower sound).
    16. There are no separate volume controls/levels for each application. Volume level for music player and all other application will be 30/30, if the ringer volume set to 30/30. (Really this is a big stupidity of windows phone 8).
    17. And the main problem, there is no “network mode” selection (3g/umts only, 2g/gsm only and dual mode).
    18. There is no option to change the search engine to Google or any other provider in search button (it’s a low-class trick of Microsoft, to force its customers to use ‘bing’).

You may avoid my letter saying that above mentioned matters are not relevant for an average user. But you should think why we bought a smart phone?
Hope you will consider all the above things and will provide a better updated version of windows.

    Regards,
    Sreejith

Thank you Sreejith for your message, please find below my reply to your concerns.

      1. Can’t make a video call. (Nokia website mentions video call as one of the Lumia 920’s feature. Can you explain how to make a video call from windows phone 8?)

      Answer:
Since Skype is now part of Microsoft after Microsoft bought Skype in 2011 and since Microsoft is moving all its communication services including man messenger into Skype, then Skype is the Video conferencing platform for Windows Phone.

      2. No file manager or file browser. (When we contacted the customer care, Lumia dept. for this issue, got a reply that, do install “IS Explorer PRO” which costs $1. And after doing the same really wondered, it was an utter worst application, which can’t open any directory. It’s raising a question that is Microsoft developers publishing an application in its windows market without any verification? )

      Answer:
Please remember that Windows Phone platform is a closed platform hence its not that easy to manipulate folders and directories, and Microsoft provided the windows phone suite for Windows and Mac, in which you can add or delete media files form your phone. Also please remember that Microsoft is moving gradually into cloud-based services like Sky drive, in which you can store your files on the cloud and transfer them to your phone. As for the Marketplace verification, trust me when i say that apps go through extensive verification process by Microsoft and if an app is not living up to what the developer has stated in his description, then the app is refused.

      3. Can’t open zip files.

      Answer:
Your statement is wrong. Zip files can be opened on the Windows phone platform at least it can on Windows phone 7 and 7.5.

6. Status bar (for battery, signal, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) will not show always.

      Answer:
Well this is a feature in Windows Phone, the ides behind it is that the Battery, Wi-Fi and Network Signal are hidden if you don’t need them, This is to make use of full screen aps.

      7. There is no any easy access for mobile data, blue tooth, silent mode, and Wi-Fi settings. (All other platforms like Symbian, android and iPhone can drag from top for easy access)

      Answer:
There are a lot of free applications called shortcut tiles that can be used for easy access to settings.
You have to understand that Windows Phone platform is not iOS or android or Asha, it a new way of doing things a better way of doing things.
